HELPING HANDS, HELPING EACH OTHER

On this edition of Radio Guy Reflections, we go back to last year to repeat a show about small market radio.  Up first Ken Walker a former radio news director who made the unusual switch to newspaper.

We also talk about serving the community.   I was reminded that January 9 2023 a great radio tradition starts again.   The Helping Hands Radio Auction has been a yearly tradition in Paris Tennessee for as long as I remember raising thousands of dollars each year for public service and charitable organization in Henry County.   I talked with last years President John Berryman about the history of the event and how WTPR- AM gives airtime to support this yearly event.

On this episode we are joined by Lesly Lotto who has worked in radio and TV news, music and film She is the President and lead anchor for  Remote News Service a company that supplies  a local news voice for radio stations around the country along with other products for todays radio.

RADIO AND POLITICS

Radio and politics have had a relation ship since KDKA signed on the air.  The Fairness Doctrine meant radio must present both sides of an issue but with the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine we saw radio become more active in local politics. Today on Radio guy reflections we are joined by Jason Williams a talk show host on KVNU AM FM in Logan Utah.  This is a great conversation about the role talk radio takes in todays politics. The changes in how you cast your ballot and why early voting has affected the way a candidate spends his ad  money.

Today on Radio Guy Reflections I get to talk with the Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters’ Association International (NASI) Bart Herbison. I worked with Bart at WTPR in Paris, Tennessee. He spent 14 years behind the mic before he started working for a governor and a congressman. Then his career changed again to his current position with NASI. We will talk radio and the music industry and how both have changed because of technology, plus a peek at what might be ahead.

He is an announcer, a programmer, a drummer, and a stand up comedian.  He is Jim Sharon whose radio years were mostly in the EZ- MOR format.  His years on the air in San Antonio Texas included some stand up and  acting on stage.  I had a great time finding our more about Jim and his interview with Tim Conway.  Read more about that at this link http://www.sanantonioradiomemories.com/funniest.htm
